I had an amazing art reception last night. It was for a designer showroom, and the clientele was designers. The company, Profile Cabinets, actually bought one of my pieces and gave it as a door prize since all of their participants were customers. Great news for me, sold painting!
There was live music, amazing food, and an open bar. It was a very well done reception. I got to get up and talk briefly about my work.
Networking is not one of my favorite things. I value genuine conversations and genuine people. I find networking sometimes to be superficial. However, last night I met some very genuine people and had some very genuine conversations.
Showing a friend around my paintings, I saw a decorating magazine on display. I mentioned that I needed to figure out how to get into that magazine. As serendipity would have it, minutes later, saddled up to the bar I begin talking to a woman. She has crazy red hair and I know I’m going to like her. She just so happens to work for the magazine. We have great conversation and I realize she is a kindred spirit. Our conversation is broken up because they are raffling off the door prize (which happens to be my painting).
The read off the numbers and I hear a cheer from the back. It’s my new friend from the magazine! What are the odds?! I was very happy she was the winner and that I made a new friendship. I now have an appointment with the editor of the magazine to discuss how to incorporate art into the magazine. Can you tell I’m buzzing with excitement!?
Serendipity, genuine conversations, and new friendships. What a great art reception!
