I declared this the year of “new’ and it so far 2015 is shaping up to be full of new experiences. One experience in particular, is something that has been on the back burner for a long time. I wasn’t sure if I was ready to jump with it. I finally pulled the trigger and committed.
For a little background before I reveal my new endeavor, I haven’t always been an artist. I started out my career in corporate marketing. After several years of long hours and living someone else’s dream I decided I needed a change. I moved to the non-profit world. I loved having a purpose for my long hours. I became an Executive Director of a non-profit arts council. I was able to do some amazing things. A part of me though, still felt unfulfilled. On a whim, I applied for an artist residency in Budapest and I won! I’ll be honest, I didn’t call myself an artist, I had shown my work to few people, and I was in near panic that I had actually won.
Once again, I found myself switching directions. I swallowed the fear and hopped a plane. I lived in Europe for a year as an artist, getting several more residencies and working with international artists. It was an amazing experience. The best part, I was able to take all of my past experience of marketing and business and apply it to my art career.
So, the big reveal….I am finally going to make it official. I am constantly solicited for marketing advice from other artists. I also get freelance work managing social media marketing for small companies. Recently, all arrows are pointing at “GO”! Interviews and speaking engagements have fallen into my lap. I am in a good place with my art and myself to finally make the leap.
So…if you have any desire at all to follow along on marketing and business tips for your creative endeavors, feel free to follow me over at my Art Marketing Blog. This week I should be launching my new website and some free tools online.
And if that doesn’t interest you, no worries. I have lots of new adventures planned for this year!
