Sometimes when I have an artist block, or I just need a sort of release and don’t know what to do, I just let the creativity flow. It is just designating a certain amount of time to being creative. Whether it’s 10 minutes, 20 minutes, or an hour, schedule out a part of your day just for creativity. Turn off the phone, set a timer, and find a comfortable place.
Pick your medium of choose. For me, it’s usually paint and canvas, but I have also been known to go to a park with a sketchpad and a pen. Sometimes I draw nature, I let my pen wander around the page until I start to see something develop, or sometimes I just start writing and do a giant brain dump.
These small creative bursts may not always seem like much at the time, but they can actually turn into something much bigger. It’s in these small creative slots that I have developed ideas for entire series, wrote some of my best work, or even found myself discovering things about myself I wasn’t aware was there.
How much time can you spare to lend towards your creativity?
