I’ve been struggling with a painting for awhile. It’s one of those pieces that I set down and walk away from for awhile and then i come back. Generally when I do come back though, it has changed in my head or taken another direction. I’ve been stuck on it too long. I’ve learned a great deal from it. I’ve implemented a lot of what I’ve learned into other paintings. I’ve grown from it.
I always loved that country song when I was a kid, “you have to know when to hold ’em, and know when to fold ’em”. Maybe I’ve gotten what I need from this piece. It has run it’s course. It’s time to wipe the slate clean and start over. In this case, a little primer will work. Now something new can be born.
